WELBURN PARK ATTRACTS SMALL BUSINESSES
1 October 2008
Buying your own business premises through your pension fund is sound business advice, which has been heeded by Yorkshire business adviser and accountant, Paul Higginbottom.
Paul and his wife Caroline, who runs interior design business C H Interiors, have acquired 800 sq ft premises at Welburn Business Park, Welburn, off the A64 between York and Malton.
Recently converted and redeveloped by The Helmsley Group, the 6,500 sq ft Welburn Business Park office complex has been divided into five individual units of between 800 sq ft and 1,600 sq ft. Three units remain available.
Alastair Gill, group surveyor at The Helmsley Group, said: “Welburn Business Park provides small individual office buildings for people who want to own their own building rather than lease premises. It is in a rural location just off the A64 near Castle Howard, with stunning views and good on-site parking with other established businesses close by, so it's a proven commercial centre.”
Self-employed business consultant Paul Higginbottom, who shares the office space with his wife's interior design business, said, “Caroline and I had both been working from home but needed more space. Renting office space is dead money to me whereas it is very tax efficient to purchase premises through my pension. Despite the recent credit crunch I decided to take a long-term view and invest in bricks and mortar. Most of my work is in North Yorkshire and Ryedale so Welburn is a great location. The offices, which include two meeting rooms, are just the right size for our two businesses.”
Paul provides advice, support and accountancy services to small and medium sized businesses, which includes a free business healthcheck to all prospective clients. He is an expert partner with the Financial Professional Support Services (FPSS) and an accredited associate of the Institute for Independent Business (IIB).
He says: “I provide advice on all areas of business including cash management, exit strategies, how to manage growth, HR issues and how to manage the business more efficiently and profitably. I would certainly advise some of my clients to examine their office costs and look to acquire their own premises rather than rent due to the long term benefits it can bring. ”
